Remember Three Key Areas for Public Speaking Success:
- Confidence and Control - This must be projected no matter how the speaker feels. This is what is required as a professional. Remember that confidence is indicated by your body language, what you do with your eyes, hands, head, legs, and also how passionate you are about your topic.
- Cater to the Audience in front of you. Ensure that your content is from the perspective of the persons in front of you - their interests, needs, desires, language. Avoid the temptation to speak from your perspective only.
- Create the Context - Provide a structure that will achieve your audience objectives. Remember that what you want to talk about is one thing, but equally and perhaps MORE important is what you want from the audience after you speak to them. Use that second objective to determine what your speech structure prioritizes. Be strategic. If you want your audience to do X then what should you tell them first? next? whats the last thing you should leave with them?
